Reiki and self care go hand in hand. Not only is Reiki a healing system, it is a spiritual way of life which teaches us to breathe, relax, look within and heal ourselves. Our self healing is literally in our own hands.
The founder of Reiki, Dr Mikao Usui gave us the tools to improve our Physical health and mental well-being. Known as the five elements of Reiki, these tools are all we need to embody all that is Reiki .
The Five elements are

- The mantras and symbols
- Attunements and Reiju
By following Dr Usui’s system and making all of the elements part of our day to day lives we will begin to feel whole again , to feel back in balance. Have less fear and worry and anger , we will begin to be more compassionate to those around us and at one with every living thing in the universe.
Reiki is a healing technique that originated in Japan and works to balance the energy within the body.
Reiki translates as universal energy and this universal energy was known to every wisdom lineage
- Aka to the Egyptians.
- Prana To the Hindu.
- Qi to the Chinese.
It sustains life and provides vital energy to all living systems. Therefore Reiki simply is life force energy and it is possible to reconnect to promote healing in the body and develop emotional, mental, spiritual wellbeing and general harmony.
Poor diet , lack of exercise, excessive physical exercise or work, stress and emotional suffering takes its toll and has adverse effects on our health. Daily practice of Reiki or regular treatments from a qualified practitioner has the potential to re-balance the mind, body and spirit, especially when complemented with a good diet and regular exercise. With Reiki it is absolutely possible to reconnect with our universal energy …our inner light and to feel more centered, more energized, happier and in a more natural state of wellness.
The Usui system of natural healing
Dr Mikao Usui, the founder of the Usui system of natural healing that we practice today was the catalyst to Reiki being introduced to the west, he founded his first Reiki clinic and school in Tokyo in 1922 and before he died he passed his knowledge and teachings to several Reiki Masters to ensure it was not forgotten .
Mikao Usui and his succeeding Reiki Masters and practitioners believe that Reiki allows the body to facilitate its own healing by bringing it back into its own state of natural balance and harmony . Our body is a finely tuned machine and given the right environment it can support itself. For instance when we fall and break a bone or cut ourselves the body has its own natural healing system and amazing ability to repair itself . When we tip the scale and unbalance either our mind or body we create an environment which supports dis-ease, our natural energy flow gets disrupted and this has the potential to contribute to the development of mental , physical or emotional illness.
Reiki can be used in conjunction with other medical treatments and is a safe and gentle way to promote healing and relaxation.
